The Libraries have recently added a subscription to the Ebsco Communication and Mass Media Complete (CMMC) database.

A comprehensive index for communication topics, this database incorporates the content of CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association) and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Penn State) along with numerous other journals in communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study to create a research and reference resource of unprecedented scope and depth. CMMC offers cover-to-cover ("core") indexing and abstracts for more than 500 journals, and selected ("priority") coverage of nearly 200 more, for a combined coverage of more than 690 titles. Furthermore, this database includes full text to more than 380 journals. Many titles are indexed -- or even full text -- back to the first date of issue.

Some of the titles available in CMMC in full text are:

SciFinder Scholar, the search interface for Chemical Abstracts, is moving to the Web!  Unlike the previous software, this new Web version will allow researchers access from off-campus after an initial account setup.

Those researchers who use the client-based version of SciFinder will want to create a web-based account before the switchover on Tuesday, September 1st. 

Instructions for creating a web-based account for SciFinder can be found on the University Libraries' web site at http://libinfo.uark.edu/eresources/scifinderweb.asp .  Note that this page is only available from computers on the campus network.

GreenFILE, a research database focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment, is now available to UofA researchers. With Indexing and full text from more than 600 scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports, GreenFILE offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the ecology. The total number of records is approximately 295,000, and full text is provided for more than 4,600 records from open access titles. Also included in GreenFILE is a 6,800-term Thesaurus. Give GreenFile a spin for topics such as recycling, LEED buildings, ozone depletion, renewable energy, climate change, and other "hot" topics.

Curious about how Microsoft's new search engine, Bing, stacks up against Google? Try out http://www.bing-vs-google.com, a site that allows you to compare search results from both engines side-by-side.

Project Muse has been busy in adding numerous new titles to its collection this year. One of the first electronic journal collections in the humanities and social sciences, Project Muse offers online access to the full text of almost 400 scholarly journals from society and university presses.
