Course Reserves Tips for Students

Searching for Course Reserves

Search by instructor or course. If you are uncertain of either enter as much as you know and choose from the browse list.

  • Example : inputing the letter C in for the instructor will bring up all course reserves lists that have an instructor whose last name begins with C.
  • Example: putting in the four letters used to identify a course such as HIST will bring up all of the course reserves that start with those four letters.

Print Reserves

Print and other physical materials (books, recordings, videos) are placed on reserve at various of the University Libraries service desks. These include:

MAIN RES = Mullins Library Circulation Desk

MEDIA RES = Performing Arts and Media

FAL RES = Fine Arts Library

CHEM RES = Chemistry and Biochemistry Library

PHYS RES = Physics Library

  • 479-575-2505
  • Physics Building Room 221
  • hours

From the course list you will need to note the location and call number of the reserve item you wish to check out. Take that information to the appropriate service desk

So that the materials may be shared equitably among members of the class, they are available for limited checkout periods:

  • two-hour in-library use only
  • two-hour overnight use
  • four-hour in-library use only (Performing Arts and Media only)
  • one-day (Mullins, Fine Arts and Performing Arts and Media only)
  • two-day (Mullins, Fine Arts and Performing Arts and Media only)
  • seven-day (Mullins only)

Electronic Reserves

The Libraries offer many course reserve materials in electronic form (E-reserves). Look for items whose format is listed as "ELECTRONIC COPY AVAILABLE."   Click on the title for that item.

When prompted, enter your UARK username and password to access the reserve item. In some cases, E-reserves also require a course password for access. Your instructor can provide you with the password.

E-Reserves Viewing and Printing Tips

Most E-Reserve files are in Adobe PDF format and require the free Adobe Reader software.

A few tips on viewing and printing E-Reserves:

  • View with the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  • Print using the Adobe Reader Toolbar Print icon. Using the browser toolbar or browser menu will result in a blank printout.
  • Adobe PDF files can be slow to load.
The screen may remain blank, even though the browser may read "Done," until the file is completely loaded. This is especially true if you are using a dial-up connection.
  • If you attempt to scroll or print before the document is fully opened, blank pages may be returned
