Allowing Popups
Popups can be as innocuous as a new window opening when a link is clicked and as annoying as endless flashing ads spawned when you enter certain web sites.
Your browser may be set to block popups so that you do not encounter those annoying ads. However, some library databases and services require that you allow second windows to open as a popup. For example, the ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan) link from several databases will open as a popup.
Below are instructions for allowing popups in various popular browsers.
Internet Explorer 7
- Go to Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Turn Off Pop-up Blocker
OR
- Go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy
- Choose Pop-Up Blocker
- Choose Pop-Up Blocker settings.
- Allow this site: (and input the database you need to access, for example http://www.refworks.com)
For IE with Google Toolbar
If you have added the Google Toolbar to your IE browser, you must take this extra step.
The popups option is a toggle. Click "## Blocked" to toggle to "Allow Popups." This will allow popups from this site during your session.
OR
- Click the Google Toolbar "Options" Button
- Uncheck Popup Blocker
FireFox / Mozilla
