The papers were donated to Special Collections by Professor James S. Chase of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas, on July 29, 1991.

The collection contains photocopies of letters, account books, legal papers, and other papers created by various generations of the four named families writing from DeSoto County, Mississippi. Some of the letters are to family in Arkansas. A student gave the photocopies to Dr. Chase several years ago and the provenance of the originals is unknown.
