GROUP V

Maps, ca. 1850s - 1970s

This small group represents a selection of maps from the collection of Mary Dengler Hudgins that she partially cataloged within the card file in Group III, Series 7. Just as all of the books in Hudgins's personal library have been cataloged individually for inclusion within the Special Collection Division's Arkansas Collection, some of her maps have also been removed for item level treatment to facilitate access. More maps presently found within this group will likely be removed in the future for separate cataloging as resources become available. The maps in this group have been arranged in 6 series.

Series 1. Arkansas state maps, 1926- 1973. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 1; box 116.

Photographic reproductions and original maps representing the entire state of Arkansas. The 1926 map has been removed to box 116 which is a protective tube.

Series 2. Garland County maps, 1905- 1960. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 2.

Photographic reproductions and original maps representing Garland County and the immediate surrounding area.

Series 3. Ouachita National Forest maps, 1931-1974. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 3.

Maps representing the Ouachita National Forest area of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

Series 4. Hot Springs city maps, 1859- 1965. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 4; box 117.

Photographic reproductions and original maps representing the city of Hot Springs and facilities on the U.S. Reservation. A 1906 city map has been removed to box 117 which is a protective tube.

Series 5. Other Arkansas county and city maps, 1921-1970. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 5.

Maps of Pine Bluff, Little Rock, Fort Smith and the areas of Newton and Union counties.

Series 6. United States and world maps, ca. 1850s - 1960s. Manuscript oversize drawer, folder 6.

Maps probably removed by Mary Hudgins from nineteenth century atlases representing a wide variety of areas around the world. Also included are more recent twentieth century maps of the United States and the Western Hemisphere.
