This series includes materials relating to four areas of history: colonial Arkansas, Arkansas County since 1805, rice farming, and genealogy. The materials on Arkansas County since 1805 are divided into two subseries: miscellaneous materials accumulated by Dorothy Core, and documents relating to Arkansas County government.
Subseries 1. Colonial Arkansas and Related Materials.
This subseries includes materials accumulated by Dorothy Core in the course of her genealogical and Arkansas County research. These materials include French and Spanish language documents photocopied from other archives. She was particularly interested in Arkansas Post, which in its later manifestations was located in southern Arkansas County. The subseries includes correspondence between Core and Morris Arnold, her collaborator on Arkansas Colonials. Also included are maps of Arkansas Post used by Dorothy Core and Dr. Arnold. The subseries also contains correspondence between Mrs. Core and descendants of Arkansas colonials, as well as genealogists, concerning prominent colonial figures. It also contains a few items on the colonial period not pertaining to Arkansas.

This subseries features materials relating to Arkansas County after the acquisition of the Arkansas Territory by the United States. The materials include cemetery, census, and court records transcribed by Dorothy Core from the originals, as well as articles and newspaper clippings. Some materials relate to work with the Cooperative Extension Program, especially Home Demonstration, by members of the Core family. Several files contain materials collected during her involvement with the Grand Prairie Historical Society, including drafts of the Grand Prairie Historical Bulletin. Also included are materials relating to the local and national chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A few items in this subseries do not pertain to Arkansas County; these materials include a run of school newspapers from Arkansas State College. All original documents pertaining to the government of Arkansas County are in Subseries 3.
