Printing
To create a large-format copy of a map, specialized copying services are required. Several copying services offer production of copies from map files stored on Zip disks or CD-RW. Production is possible from various formats including PDF, TIFF, and JPEG files. The maximum size copy varies. Cost is usually calculated by square foot, and some businesses charge an additional "file opening" fee. Currently, the square-foot cost ranges from $5 to $12 for a color print; black and white copies are usually substantially less.
At the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, and in the City of Fayetteville, businesses offering such copying services include (no endorsement is implied):
- University of Arkansas Union Copy Center (Tel: 479-575-2646; Student Union; Basement); 36" maximum width.
- A & B Reprographics (Tel: 479-571-0103; 2397 North Green Acres Road, Fayetteville); 58" maximum width.
- FedEx/Kinko's (Tel: 479-443-5018; 3358 North College Avenue, Fayetteville); 52" maximum width.
Scanning
A few computers are equipped with scanners in the Research Commons / GACL / General Access Computing Lab in Mullins Library, on Level 2. The scanner dimensions are 8 ½ ” by 11”; the scanner can be used for smaller-sized maps.
For Special Collections maps and aerial photograph requests, the staff performs the scanning within the department as appropriate for the individual item. Use the scanning request form and specify the item, resolution, and file type, to inquire about scanning. A large-format scanner has recently been purchased by Special Collections, to be used for staff projects and for certain patron requests.
